Phuket is one of the paradisiacal places in the world with everything that any visitor could wish for. As a family destination, it offers a wide range of different accommodation including villas, ideal for families with young children, hotels and guest houses. With many attractions combined with water sports, relaxation, shopping and sunbathing, Phuket is a destination for all seasons. Located in the Andaman Sea, Phuket has been given the name “Pearl of Andaman”.

Phuket is situated in the south of Thailand and these days transportation is easy with Phuket International Airport serving the region. About the same size as Singapore, Phuket is an island that gives it a romantic quality, but it’s linked to the mainland by a land bridge. The economy is based on tourism and with the magnificent coves, white sand beaches and crystal clear sea; it’s easy to see why Phuket is so popular. The residents of the island are lovely and friendly and the local cuisine is fabulous.

Transportation is plentiful in Phuket with open-air taxis, scooter rentals, and buses, making it easy to get around and explore the sights on your own. Phuket tourist attractions are perfect for families with children and are educational as well as fun. Don’t miss Phuket Aquarium, Butterfly Farm, Crocodile Farm and FantaSea. There are many places of cultural interest, so do not miss the Wat Chalong Temple.

For a special treat, visit the monkey sanctuary where a rehabilitation program prepares Gibbon monkeys to return to the wild. Kids will love the opportunity to adopt a gibbon and will receive an adoption packet and t-shirt, plus regular newsletters and information on their gibbon’s progress. This is a great way to teach children about endangered species conservation and a lasting memory of Phuket. The gift shop sells souvenirs and all profits from the merchandise go towards the upkeep of the project.

If you have a chance to go to Phuket town, it is a real experience to visit Lor Rong Market to taste some Phuket specialities. You will eat some of the most delicious dishes and the friendly vendors will be happy to see you try their cuisine. It’s not the biggest food market, but the sweets and some dishes can’t be found anywhere else.

Why not try some sweet dishes like fried plantain with grated rice, delicious, or some of the little sweets made from rice flour and coconut milk cooked in little pots with clay lids? Add sugar for an authentic Phuket experience.

Some tasty dishes worth trying are the spring rolls stuffed with red pork or shrimp with vegetables and sweet brown sauce and the local specialty of fried noodles, fried shallots and spring onions, served with pork ribs and a clear soup.

Lor Rong Market is located after the Jui Tui Shrine, past the local bus station in Phuket Town.

Phuket will capture your imagination and your heart and you will find yourself coming back again and again.
