3 self defense accessories for your iPhone

The famous case of the knuckles

I say famous because once such an accessory finds its way into the hands of celebrities like Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Megan Fox, it simply can’t have a lower status. It’s basically an iPhone bumper with knuckles on one side.

The original Knucklecase is made of aluminum which makes it very strong. However, don’t think “violence” because its creators claim that it was designed as an iPhone handle and nothing more. If he decides to do anything else with it, it is entirely his responsibility.

The Knucklecase is not very cheap. The versions compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4s are between $39-49 and the 5 and 5s versions are in the range of $120-125.

the yellow jacket

If the Knucklecase doesn’t really sound like an effective self-defense solution (unless you have some training in that matter), wait until you see the Yellow Jacket. It’s a 650,000 volt stun gun that can at least temporarily stop your assailant and allow you to run for his life or you can use that energy to fully recharge his phone.

Yellow Jacket is not a fancy accessory, so it comes with a fairly complete manual and online tutorials are provided for its correct use. If you decide to give it a try, know that Yellow Jacket adds some weight to your iPhone. It’s a hate or love situation.

Also, putting it together to fit your iPhone is not an easy task, it requires a little strength and a lot of patience. Priced at $99, Yellow Jacket is currently available in multiple colors for iPhone 4 and 4s, with new models compatible with iPhone 5 and 5s, as well as Samsung Galaxy, coming soon.

smart guard

Another option to weaponize your iPhone is to add pepper spray to it. SmartGuard is a case that contains a small canister of pepper spray, which you can quickly release and use when you find yourself in a bad situation.

The spray can travel up to 5 feet, irritating the eyes, skin and respiratory system of your attacker. It’s less violent than Yellow Jacket, but probably more effective at wearing someone down. The container is very easy to remove and put back into the case, so as long as you have your phone close at hand, you’ll be able to use it in just a few seconds.

Sure you could get regular pepper spray, but this one has another advantage, aside from being able to be attached to your phone: it seems harmless enough that your attacker probably won’t have a clue until you spray him with Capsicum oleoresin solution at 10%

SmartGuard is available for $35, in various colors on the SabreRed website.
