Pet sitting – you should never forget to leave these things for your pet sitter

When hiring a new pet sitter from your local pet sitting service, you will be asked to provide the pet sitter with a few items so they can use them to care for your pet or in case of an emergency. These will include items that will be used on a daily basis, as well as important paperwork. It is crucial that your pet sitter knows where all of these things are so that he can provide you and your pet with the best pet sitting service that they can.

Daily Used Pet Items

Establish the following pet items that your pet needs and/or uses every day. Also, let your pet sitter know where you keep extras if something is running low.

  • Food and water bowl/dishes
  • Dry food and/or canned food (and where to find extras)
  • Tap water or filtered water
  • Leash and collar with nameplate
  • Back-up strap, if needed
  • Pee pad area and replacements
  • Litter box, scoop, bags, odor eliminator
  • candies! (of course)
  • Medicines or vitamins
  • Toys!
  • bed or blankets
  • Pet carrier/cage
  • Clothes or sweaters (if you like to dress them up or warm them up)
  • Toothbrush or toothpaste, if needed
  • grooming brushes or combs
  • Shampoo and other bathroom accessories (bathtub, hose, towels, etc.)
  • Hair dryer, if used
  • Flea drops/spray
  • Flea spray for your garden
  • nail clipper

Important paperwork or information about your pet

It is very important that your pet sitter knows where to find this information in an emergency.

  • Medical history
  • proof of vaccinations
  • Contact information for your pet’s veterinarian
  • preferred animal hospital
  • Your pet’s allergies
  • Current medical status or conditions
  • Any special instructions necessary for the care of your pet.
  • Microchip number of your pet
  • Documentation that the pet sitter has permission to care for your pet and be in your home
  • Your contact information in case of an emergency
  • Closest friend or relative in case of emergency

Other preferences

These are some fun things that your pet may prefer.

  • favorite barber
  • favorite park
  • A special store (like a pet store or dog treat store they can go to)
  • Favorite neighborhood pet to play with
  • Favorite place to sleep (they may like to lie in the sunlight, so you’ll need to keep the blinds slightly open).
  • favorite toy or treat
  • Tricks!
  • Favorite activities

That should be a pretty comprehensive list of things to provide for your pet sitter while you’re gone. Many professional sitters will request this information, and possibly even more, all to ensure that they can provide you and your pet with the best possible pet care service.
