Whoopi brings ‘stuff’ into view
First, there was Star Jones among the mix of Barbra Walters’ Woman Chat, which included Meredith Viera, Joy Behar, Lisa Ling. However, as the seasons changed, so did the comings and goings of The Views co-hosts. I credit the original cast for mild to moderate moments of interest to the viewing public, however, nothing came out of those roundtables, not even remotely mind blowing. In short, there was no fire, no guts, and no drama!
Lisa Ling then goes on a journey to the distant lands of Discovery… She spends time flying to foreign countries, often under the auspices of Mrs. Oprah Winfrey, where she brings back images of starvation, demoralization and immoral treatment of women. people. women and girls for American viewers…Lisa finds the passion from her and all is well.
The View welcomes the inexperienced Elizabeth Hasselbeck to take a seat at their conversation table… The View seems to be fine, after all, Star’s antics and Viera’s low shots, along with Viera’s bland jokes. Behar seem to be enough, until… Meredith leaves for The Today Show; Star Jones is unceremoniously fired and Rosie O’Donnell is allegedly personally selected by Mrs. Walters to ruin Star’s departure!
Rosie O’Donnell causes a stir on The View… Ratings rise sharply as Barbra Walters becomes known for her past contributions… an icon who no longer reigns supreme as the main reason people tune in to see… The public complains when Rosie misses a single day… folks, it’s about “the controversy” of Rosie’s interpretation of world affairs/people/places/things/Elizabeth/Donald Trump.. .
Imagine this writer’s surprise when Rosie abruptly refuses to return to The View… I guess, like many of you, she’s fired! All summer long, we look forward to hearing about Rosie’s replacement. It was announced and finalized sometime in late August that Whoopi Goldberg would join the ladies at the table and she does. On the second day, the comedian gets in trouble with the viewers because of her comments about a soccer player and dog fights… she has to explain herself and return her opinions. I have a feeling she’s internally counting down the days until she, too, gets kicked out of this stage show.
Sherri Shepard, amid much fuss about her salary matching Whoopi’s, completes the talk. Mrs. Shepard, estranged from her cheating husband, alluded to being pushed under the table slightly to slow down the spilling of too much information when it comes to her personal life, i.e. her husband’s infidelity, her need to murderous revenge and nudity in his past. .
As Whoopi tries to tone down her colorful and sly observations by showing the audience some of her favorite things she can’t live without, the writer in me is reawakened to the reality of what the ever-controversial comedian-turned-actress-turned-star doesn’t say. star, turned mistress of ceremonies on The View. This of course means that my gap year is over when it comes to
