Be eager, be determined, and no matter how tedious it may seem at times, keep pushing. Have zeal, drive and dedication to your project. Others, we will be able to know if you are serious about the progress of your work or not. Never rush, set blocks of time so you can take your time and don’t leave any loose ends, finish what you start. I try to do one project at a time. When you tend to bounce, you leave loose ends everywhere. You want to start and finish and move on to the next thing. That you work from home does not mean that you should not have order or a daily plan. Just like a 9-5 away from home, pick a block of time strictly dedicated daily to your project from start to finish. Let your answering service take messages and hang up the phone; in fact, turn off all distractions so you can focus. Sometimes I like to listen to music when I’m working on something, but even sometimes, if it distracts me, I don’t hesitate to interrupt it.
Organization is the key for everything to flow. A place for everything and everything in its place so you don’t waste time looking for things. Lay it all out on your workspace like an assembly line.
When you take pride in your work, you protect it. Keep finished projects covered, accidents happen. All it takes is a cup of coffee or soda dropped on something you’re making to cause a mess, especially if it’s something made of easily stained materials. Eat and drink before or after you start work, better safe than sorry. In general, work at a pace and daily schedule that works for you so you don’t burn out. Find a way to balance your time if you are a stay at home mom or housewife so you can take care of your kids, your home, and your crafts. Every now and then take a little time for yourself. There is nothing wrong with one or two short breaks during the day to give your brain and body a break. Just develop a system and try to stick to it. Remember that the more persistent and consistent you are in developing your craft, the faster and larger your inventory will grow.
