Feng Shui Formula – Eight Houses Explained

his formula has been used since the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD) in China. The characteristic of this formula is that it directly affects the person and does not involve property. When a person is oriented towards a particular compass direction, he derives a particular benefit. The positive benefits are wealth, health, relationships and personal development. The other 4 directions have negative characteristics, which is better to minimize the time spent in that direction.

The longer the person stays in the beneficial direction, the greater the benefit. However, the use of this formula is only part of the big picture in the application of feng shui. It can be said that the application of this formula is only one of several formulas used. It should never be used as the only method.

An analogy in food preparation. When the main ingredient is cooked, say the main dish like meat, it is normally seasoned with a variety of components like salt, pepper with herbs and spices. Never just with pepper. The eight house formula should be treated as one component or one of the mixture.

The details

Each person gets different benefits for the 8 different compass directions.

1. The benefits are: better wealth, better health, better relationships and personal development such as better study skills.

The other 4 effects are essentially negative. The goal is, when sitting, to face in as favorable a direction as possible to get the most benefit. When sleeping, it is the top of the head that points in the particular direction of the compass.

2. The 8 compass directions are the 4 cardinal directions of north, east, south, and west along with the 4 subcardinal directions of northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest.
Not all people have the same effect for each compass direction. There are 8 different groups or “ming kua”.
Each group has a number from 1 to 8. The groups or “kua” are based on the year of birth between February 4 and 3.

Example 1: Male, born June 21, 1982.

It is kua 9 and its favorable directions are:

1. East (E) – wealth luck
2. Southeast (SE) – health luck
3. North (N) – luck in the relationship
4. South (S) – personal luck

Its inauspicious directions are Northeast (NE), Northwest (NW), West (W), and South (W). The trick is to minimize the facing or have the head point in these negative directions.

Example 2: Female, born January 9, 1982

Note that you were born before February 4; she belongs to the previous birth year of 1981.

She is kua 8 and her favorable directions are:

1. Southwest (SW) – wealth luck
2. Northwest (NW) – health luck
3. West (W) – luck in relationship
4. Northeast (NE) – personal luck

Its inauspicious directions are East (E), South (S), Southeast (SE), and North (N). Minimize looking or pointing in these directions.

“Eight houses” is a simple and direct formula in feng shui. It applies to the person directly and does not apply to property. Each person has a particular benefit when facing one of the eight compass directions.

The more time they spend in that direction, the greater the benefit to the person.

feng shui is a Chinese land management system that developed with the rise of Chinese civilization, more than 40 centuries ago. The system comprises the flows of energy in the dimensions of time and space. This energy is harnessed to create the living space (homes, buildings, towns, and cities) conducive for people to engage in the appropriate behaviors for better health, wealth, and happiness.
