How to make colored fries

Everybody loves French fries. However, it is the children who are happy to eat chips all day. However, French fries that are available at fast food outlets are not very healthy, as they contain a lot of unsaturated fat and sodium. Therefore, it is better to make french fries at home. However, then you may face another problem with your kids complaining that these fries are not as delicious as the ones available at the local fast food store. You can get your kids to eat healthy French fries by being a little creative.

Making colored potato chips is not that difficult as most people have all the necessary ingredients at home. Plus, this dish is perfect for a kids’ party when all the kids want to do is gorge on junk food.

Wash six red potatoes and dry them well with a kitchen towel. Peel the potatoes, then cut them into 1/2-inch sticks. This width ensures that the fries cook faster.

Squeeze fresh lemons to get about a half cup of fresh lemon juice. Add the food coloring of your choice to the lemon juice. About 2 tablespoons of the coloring should be enough. Mix the lemon juice well to make sure the coloring dissolves completely.

Transfer the colored lemon juice to a large bowl and place the cut potato wedges in it. Arrange the slices in a single layer, making sure they are all covered with the lemon juice. Let the potatoes rest for about three hours. Thereafter, place the slices on paper towels to dry. While you prepare the potatoes, preheat the oven to about 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

You will bake French fries to give your kids a healthier snack. Now prepare the roasting pan by spraying it with some nonstick spray. Check if the colored potato slices are dry. Toss the dried potato slices in a little olive oil and add salt to taste.

Place a single layer of the slices in the roasting pan. Do not add a second layer, as the bottom one will not cook. We put the tray in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. Be sure to flip the potatoes after 15 minutes to ensure the other side cooks as well. Allow the fries to cool slightly before serving.

Serve the colorful potato chips to your kids and watch how they look amazed and delighted. You can be sure that after making this dish, your children will always ask you for these fries at home constantly; and chances are you don’t care if your kids had fun.
