Persian Cat: An Elegant and Affectionate Breed

Persian cats are impressive long-haired cats. That being said, according to the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), in 2015 the Persian cat breed was ranked as the second most popular breed in the United States. The first most popular breed is the exotic. The exotic breed looks like a shorthaired Persian. As a result, I think these people love Persians too.

NOTE: The Exotic breed was created by crossing a Domestic Shorthair with a Persian. So eventually, the domestic shorthairs GOT exotic because of the Persian in them. (So ​​I suspect the lower hair maintenance of the shorthair may have some influence there… Also, prior to the creation of the exotic shorthair, domestic shorthairs were not allowed to participate in cat shows.) .

The Persian cat has a distinctive appearance: a large, round head; large round eyes; a short nose; full cheeks; and small ears with rounded tips. The head is supported by a short, thick neck and a deceptively robust muscular body. The legs of a Persian cat are short, thick, and strong with large, round, firm paws. The tail is fluffy and proportional to the length of the cat’s body.

Appearance

Persian cats can have different “appearances”. The selective breeding process carried out by breeders has allowed the development of a wide variety of coat colors. It has also led to the creation of increasingly flat-faced (or Peke-faced) Persians. Favored by many cat lovers, this head structure can bring with it a host of health problems. Some breeders have endeavored to preserve the older type of cat, the traditional breed, which has a more pronounced muzzle, which is more popular with the general public. These are called “doll-face” Persians.

“Doll-faced” Persians are said to have a more old-fashioned appearance, with a face that is not as flat as the Show Persian or Peke-faced Persian.

Atmosphere

The dignified and docile Persian is known to be calm and sweet. She is an ornament to any home where she can enjoy sitting on a lap, surely her rightful place, being caressed by those who are perceptive enough to recognize her superior qualities, and playing house with kind children who will gently comb her hair, they will take her around in a cart, wagon or carriage, and then serve her tea at her parties. Persians are loving but discriminating. They reserve their attention for family members and the few guests they feel they can trust.

Persian cats are calm cats who prefer a serene home where they change little from day to day. Also, they are happier when they are not in a noisy environment.

The Persians use their large expressive eyes and a voice that can be described as soft, pleasant and musical. Persian cats make their simple needs known: regular meals, a little time to play with a catnip mouse or feathered harrier, and lots of love, which they return tenfold.

Because Persian cats’ legs are short, they are less likely to climb excessive heights, but as kittens, they will try harder than as adults. Getting them their own furniture and toys is helpful for them. When you’re at work or busy around the house, the Persian is content to adorn a chair, sofa, or bed until you’re free to admire him and give him the attention he willingly receives but never demands.

care and grooming

The most important thing to understand about caring for a Persian cat is the need to brush it daily. That long, beautiful coat doesn’t stay neat and tangle-free on its own. He should be gently but thoroughly combed and brushed every day, and it’s a good idea to bathe him regularly, at least once a month. Clipping their nails regularly is also easy to do.

Litter boxes must also be kept scrupulously clean. A Persian cat will often supervise this activity and immediately check behind his work after cleaning the box. They may come while you clean the box and watch. When you’re done, they might walk in, snoop around, look at you like they’re saying they approve, and then leave. Therefore, make sure you do a good job, preferably every day.

Persian kittens and Persian cats are not meant to live outdoors. They are only exclusive indoor cats.

Excessive tearing can be a problem in this breed. The simple solution is to clean the corners of the eyes every day. This prevents spots from forming under the eyes.
