Practical Vinyl Floors

Vinyl flooring is becoming less and less popular as a flooring option for homeowners. However, this is still a viable flooring option that is inexpensive, convenient and easy to install. It has their advantages and disadvantages. Only you can determine if this type of flooring is best for your home.

There are many benefits to having vinyl tile flooring. First of all, it is easy to install, because the tiles usually have a self-adhesive backing. Even if this is not the case, it is enough to spread an adhesive on the floor with a trowel before laying the tile. If a tile cracks or breaks, you can easily replace it without having to replace the entire floor. However, you may not always be able to find the exact tile you purchased, so it’s best to purchase additional tiles and save them in case you need them later.

There are also many disadvantages to having vinyl flooring. Since the tiles are not attached to each other in any way, they can often come loose. This is especially true with vinyl flooring in a room that gets mopped frequently, like the kitchen. Also, because the tiles do not interlock, dirt and debris can get into the cracks between the tiles and this can be very difficult to clean.

Before you can install vinyl flooring in your home, you’ll need to determine how many tiles you need. To do this with twelve-inch tiles, you’ll simply multiply the length of your room by the width to determine the number of tiles needed. If you’re using nine-inch tiles, you’ll need to divide the width of the room, measured in inches, by nine, do the same for the length, and multiply the two numbers. In either case, you should add five percent for cutting and scrapping, as well as another five or ten percent for potential replacement tiles.

Due to the resiliency of vinyl, you must ensure that your floors have a smooth, flat surface before laying the tiles. Any bumps in the flooring, specks of dirt, or nails can create bubbles and hard bumps in your finished vinyl flooring. Be sure to take care of anything of this nature before laying the floors.

If you have purchased a color or pattern of tiles, you can easily install them without thinking. However, if you choose two shades for your vinyl flooring, you will need to establish a pattern that it follows throughout the room. This is quite easy to do.

The final row of flooring is the most difficult part of the installation. Tiles often don’t fit the room precisely from start to finish, so you’ll need to cut them to fit in the last row. To do this, simply measure the gap, line up the pattern on the last tile laid, and mark the cut with a pencil. You can cut the tiles with a knife, a knife or a knife.

The end result will be a somewhat durable, inexpensive, and good-looking floor. Maintenance of this type of flooring is easy. As with any floor, you should avoid using too much water when mopping. About once a year, you may also need to use a toothbrush or other grout cleaner to clean between vinyl flooring tiles.
