Stress, can it be good for you?

Stress, the mere mention of the word causes many people to start feeling the symptoms associated with it. Their hearts begin to pound. Her skin becomes cold and clammy. They feel overwhelmed. Your emotions can go from anger to euphoria and vice versa for no apparent reason.

Let’s face it, most of us would prefer to avoid stress as much as possible.

Well, it may surprise you that you need stress in your life. Stress gives you that extra challenge, builds character, and helps you explore creative solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems. Without stress, life would be slow, monotonous and boring.

For stress to work for you, it’s important to understand that it’s unique for everyone. Things you find very stressful may be someone else’s form of emotion.

However, too much stress can threaten your mental and physical well-being. When we reach our saturation point, we signal ourselves to slow down. However, we often miss those signs of stress until we are faced with a crisis. Either we blow up at a family member or co-worker or develop symptoms of one kind or another, forcing us to recognize and deal with the condition of excessive stress.

Without a doubt, you are aware of what stresses you. But are you aware of how to reduce stress in your life? If you’re feeling close to stress overload, use some of these stress-reduction techniques.

Say no when you want to say no, when your schedule is already full, when someone leans on you. Say no to needy people who tend to wear you down, say no to added responsibility.

Take care eating, sleeping and exercising in a healthy way. Avoid drugs and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

Act instead of react. Stop being the victim. Take charge of your life, make decisions, go for what you want and don’t take no for an answer. Consider that you are responsible for the situation and circumstances of your life, no one else.

Limit yourself. Realize that you are human and have limits on your time, energy, and resources. The world will turn without you.

Take regular breaks from work. Even 5-10 minute breaks every couple of hours will allow you to refresh your mind.

organize your time. Make realistic lists. Plan and learn to delegate.

have fun. Do something different and spontaneous, like driving a different route to work, eating at a different restaurant, or getting a massage.

Schedule your stress. Distribute stressful events in the way that is most comfortable for you. Do the most difficult tasks first. Avoid procrastination.
