UK Dating Tips: Ready to go out and find a relationship?

Well, are you ready to start dating? This can apply to whether you have been dating or are new to dating again after a long-term relationship. “Of course I am,” you can say, but it’s surprising how many people I talk to who say they’re ready, but when we dig a little deeper, all sorts of dating/relationship/life issues come up. What about the lady who said she was ready but there was a certain man who had been at rock bottom for 11 years? Or the woman who is also ready but never has time to even go to the hairdresser or check her bank statement because of the hours she works?

What gets in the way of successful dating?

Many things can get in the way of being ready to successfully date and find a relationship. Here are some of the things that are common:-

o Still carrying emotional baggage from previous relationships

o Being in the midst of legal chaos

o Work so many hours that you can’t find the time

o Overcommitment to family

o People in your life who hold you back

o Not knowing what you really want in a relationship

Wherever you are, it’s important to get yourself a dating/relationship road check. By that I mean looking at all areas of your life so that you are clear on what you need to handle before you can begin to build a relationship. This may sound trite, but to be successful in relationships you need to find a way to be successful in life. Relationships are not an isolated part of our lives, but a reflection of how we live our lives in general. If your life is in balance, you are much more likely to find and develop a successful relationship.

Building a life that is relationship ready

I just mentioned a relationship review. If you are going to be ready to follow the ‘path’, so to speak, what needs to be in its place? Here are some areas I suggest you look at:-

o Physical/emotional health

o Job/career

or lifestyle

or money

oFamily

or friends

o Environment – home, etc.

or Relationships

What you need to do is honestly summarize where you are in all of these areas. Second, take a look at what you might need to do to resolve any or all of the issues that are currently pending. If, for example, in “friendship” you realize that the people you socialize with are mostly just interested in going to bars and getting drunk and you’ve had enough of this. You need to find people who want to do the kinds of things that you find interesting and fulfilling. Your work life is less than satisfactory, how can you reverse this situation? Remember that small steps can make a big difference and I’m not talking about doing it overnight. It is not a makeover program but a life program. It’s about becoming more focused and acting on your own behalf.

Now get ready for dating and relationships

Now that you have a plan to handle some areas of your life that need attention, you can also see where you are in terms of dating and relationships. The old saying “success breeds success” can be very annoying when your life looks nothing like success. Just pausing here to note that success is what success means to you, not what others may judge to be success. I can assure you that when you start taking steps to be more successful in one area of your life, there are collateral effects that impact other areas.

Without a doubt, you will begin to show yourself different from those around you. Those friends who held you back or didn’t even know how much you had in the bank may be a thing of the past. It’s about standing up and taking responsibility for your life so that you can take responsibility for the successful relationship you truly want. Take one step at a time making sure that all the steps are going in the same direction and you will find that you can move your life forward on the path of relationships.
