Whole House UV Light and Portable Air Purifiers: Real Help for COPD, Allergies and Asthma

For people with severe allergies, chronic respiratory infections, COPD, and similar ailments, maintaining good health and managing symptoms is often a daily struggle. And much of that struggle is often due to them staying indoors too long, which unfortunately can easily expose them to more allergens, mold spores, and bacteria in the air, making things even worse. In addition to medications and respiratory treatments, an effective course of action is to clean your indoor air, in a certain way.

When it comes to cleaning indoor air, we’re not talking about installing a better air conditioning filter, removing indoor smoke, or turning on exhaust hoods to help remove contaminants, although those steps can help. We’re talking about the power of using an affordable whole house UV light air purifying system in combination with at least one quality portable air purifier in the room where you spend the most time. UV light air purifiers are highly germicidal, using intense ultraviolet light to kill live mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and other germs floating through the air ducts of most homes. All you really need is a good 36 watt unit placed in the exhaust section of the HVAC or air conditioning system and after a few hours almost everything that was alive and floating in the air in your home will be dead, and this help freshen the air, too. This step kills airborne germs that often cause chronic or repeated respiratory infections, severe allergy attacks, and even asthma.

The next step is to use a quality portable air purifier, with a medical-grade HEPA filter and a substantial carbon filter. Unlike cheap air purifiers, those from e.g. Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Winix, etc. They have true HEPA filters that are certified to remove more than 99% of all dust, dust mites, mold spores, and other particles as small as 0.1 microns. . Quality activated carbon filters, like those in Aller Air, Austin, and Blueair air purifiers, have been proven to remove more than 99% of any type of chemical or odor contaminants, which often silently cause significant irritation of the skin. the bronchi and other areas of the airways, leading to increased medication use, limited mobility, more time indoors. (Winix units are cheaper but don’t have much carbon in their filters).

Believe it or not, most homes have a fair amount of chemicals that are regularly released and recirculated by the air conditioning system, and you need to have a good amount of quality activated carbon to remove them. Common sources of these chemicals and fumes are: household cleaners, paints, fabrics, treated wood preservatives (often containing deadly arsenic), fragrances, solvents, pesticides, outdoor chemical pollution generated by the HVAC system, and more. However, with a quality portable air cleaner in place, these contaminants won’t have a chance to cause symptoms to continue or worsen, and the body may have a chance to heal itself.

Why portable air purification units instead of whole house systems? This is because a good room air purifier also removes contaminants from the ductwork; Whole house air purifiers clean the air, but mold, bacteria, dust, etc. they stuck to the inner walls of the ducts after the whole house air purifier still has a chance to get out into the room, and a portable air purifier will trap these contaminants before they reach you.

Using UV light air purifiers and one or two good portable air purifiers as a system can make a big difference in your health and overall comfort level if you have COPD, allergies, asthma, or respiratory problems simply because the living organisms that were present in the air are now dead, and any particles or chemicals are now being removed by quality carbon and HEPA filters in air purifiers. It just makes sense: kill and remove harmful particles, chemicals, and germs floating around in indoor air, and your allergy, asthma, or respiratory symptoms will often lessen and may even disappear altogether over time.
