Why does tennis comment so badly?

Is it just me or has live tennis commentary gone downhill in recent years or what?

What is your opinion?

For the record as well, I love Johnny Mac and I also love listening to the ATP guys.

Since they can take you with them during the game and teach you something you didn’t know before you saw it, this requires insight and knowing how to do it!

Something that most American tennis announcers don’t have!

Let’s go back to the title of this article.

The first problem is that American television announcers talk too much.

They never shut up.

The guys talk before, during and after points and talk when they should allow the viewer to enjoy the game.

“Every great TV commentator has a flow, in the way they call a tennis match and they are great at following the flow of the match.”

That requires experience and skill and most of them don’t have it.

The other problem is that they are trying to impress the viewer too much on air.

It’s almost like most of them have to prove to us that they know more about the game than we do.

Wrong move too.

They need to let their comments speak for themselves and then the viewer will find out after that match how much knowledge they have.

Every time I listen to the ATP guys I learn something new about the game.

And that is why they are so good at what they do.

Last reason, they don’t have any appeal on TV.

With this one, you either have it or you don’t.

Screen appeal is natural for some people and difficult for others.

If you find it difficult, then you need to be yourself and work on your posture and appearance on screen more off-air.

Which is something a lot of these guys don’t do.

I wonder if this is the main reason why television viewership for tennis has been declining in recent years.

Tennis is a great sport to watch and when you have a great announcer and a co-host who is being fun and witty doing it, you can enjoy the game even more.

Solution.

Get rid of these guys!

The TV channels should give them a chance to figure things out and then kick them off and bring in some new blood.

I know there are many of you who are reading this who agree with me here, because every time I talk to my friends, I also hear the same complaints from them.

We all need to talk about this huge issue and make sure the ATP and WTA listen to us.

After all, we are the ones who pay the tickets, the ones who pay the players and the sponsors for the television coverage of these tournaments.

Okay, that’s the end of my rants, guys.

Leave me a comment and give me your opinion on this topic.

Because I would love to know your opinion about it!

Enjoy the Australian Open too guys!
