Will ios7 make iPhone app development great?

Introduction

Well, there you go! Apple’s latest operating system, iOS7, was unveiled by top Apple officials at the altar of Apple’s developer conference. Although it’s been a woefully late update, it does its best to portray the delta in front of its previous avatar.

Although it doesn’t promise much, this new operating system shows features that Apple hopes will attract more followers and, consequently, decrease the base of devotees of other operating systems, mainly Android and Windows.

So what are these features?

Display: Flabby, beveled app icons, once all the rage but lately lost their shine, have been put on a diet plan. Now they are flat, but brighter and give the feeling of appearing above the screen. The “dark circles” that wrap around the icons are gone, replaced with a refreshing new color palette and complementary fonts to justify the different label in iOS7.

User Interface: Usability concerns have led to a layered approach where content is given prominence over others, such as menus and windows. These interface layers become translucent to allow content to surface so you know what you’re doing right now. This eliminates the need to toggle between your task(s) and access a menu item. There’s also the control center which places the most used settings and controls in strategic layers and can be accessed with a swipe at the bottom of the screen.

Apple has introduced a fun change in screen perspective! Yes, tilt the device and change the perspective so that you can see the wallpaper behind the apps smoothly.

usability:

Using Apple products is all about usability, isn’t it? The iOS7 does not disappoint in its USP. Have a look.

  • A quick swipe allows you to move between applications/tasks as well as access important menus.
  • Swipe from left to right anywhere on a locked screen to open it.
  • Slide your finger from left to right anywhere on an active screen to go to the previous screen.
  • Sharing files made easy: Airdrop, touted by Apple as the answer to Samsung’s NFC file-sharing method, creates ad-hoc networks with other iOS7 devices. You just need to see the receiver’s device on yours and tap. Viola! Your file is sent to the receiver via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But hey, you can share only with iOS7 enabled devices. I am sorry!
  • Instagram-compatible camera: Square is the shape of Instagram photos, and iOS7 allows you to take photos in square mode, in addition to panorama, photo, and video modes. As always, just slide your finger horizontally to change modes. You can apply crazy filters to photos. A large red button acts to perform the shutter function in all modes.
  • Siri now changes gender: In addition to a new female voice to help you, iOS7 offers a male digital assistant to help with your queries. You have the option to change the assistant’s loudness from velvety to scratchy while asking it to search Wikipedia, Twitter, or change phone settings, all of which feature an improvement in Siri’s ability.
  • itunes Radio: iOS7’s new add-on feature offers over 200 radio stations that can be built around your likeness to a particular artist or genre. You can also download the songs for a fee, of course, lower than that of its rivals.
  • Any other surprises: Of course, there is the smart mailbox function, notifications and synchronized maps, activation lock, photo sharing via iCloud, viewing maps in night mode are some of them.

Is the world of app developers excited?

The debut of iOS7 has received more disgust than awe from the app developer community. The cynicism about the compatibility of the new iOS7 with their applications and the need to modify their applications to adapt them to this operating system worries many developers. But eventually they will adapt to the new OS ecosystem convinced that they can be, on Apple’s side, that iOS7 will bring in the money like their ancestors did.
