While Sony may have turned heads with some “reports” of new devices, Nintendo is forging ahead with its revolutionary new system, the Nintendo 3DS. Touted as the first true game console that allows gamers to play 3D video games without the need for any special gadgets, the Nintendo 3DS has certainly created a lot of buzz since its unveiling at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2010. The device is based on a custom PICA200 graphics processor designed especially for Nintendo, and will feature two standard screens that produce automatic stereoscopic 3D effects, a slider to adjust the system’s 3D effect, an analog input called the Slider Pad, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. , two cameras on the outside to capture 3D images and one 0.3 megapixel camera on the inside, and an enhanced 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi module with advanced security measures. In addition, the 3DS is said to incorporate sophisticated anti-piracy technology to counter the declining sales in the handheld market.

The Nintendo 3DS will be backwards compatible with all previous DS games and will have access to its own online repository of digital game downloads (similar to Virtual Console). In addition, the 3DS aims to emulate the multimedia features of its competitor, the PlayStation Portable, and will allow you to play 3D movies on the device. A large number of third-party developers are expected to bring their games to the system, such as Square Enix with its Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series, Konami with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D, Ubisoft with Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy, and Capcom with Resident Evil. : Revelations and Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition. With the handheld market entering a new phase, Nintendo plans to deliver full force and establish itself as the dominant leader in portable gaming.
