Reuse of product types: hub and radio analogy

Let’s say you’ve created an e-book and now you want to turn it into an e-course, webinar, seminar, or spectacular presentation. To determine if this is a good use of your time and efforts, let’s look at the basic way reuse works.

Two types of reusable products

There are two types of reusable products. In a previous article we mentioned that there are two types of species, active and passive. The first is where you have to actively participate, such as in written words and videos. Passive is audio, you can listen passively.

There are two types of reuse that you should be very familiar with. There is the type of origin, what it reuses and there is the type of in, in what it reuses.

  • From is the original source you are reusing from
  • In the reuse target of what is being reused.

For us this is not linear, it is spatial. The de is like a center, the de is the original message. It can be written, it can be audio, and it can be video, but that’s the hub on an axle and the analogy of the spoke as a bicycle wheel.

Emanating from this axis are the different spokes and those are the different in reuse strategies, because it is reusing them in the wheel and the wheel is the market.

What is your message

You have a message. You have media sources, which are the reuse strategies that are radios. Then the wheel with a tire, hopefully on the bicycle wheel, that’s the market.

The part of, the message is from whom? The message is yours and begins with a specific source. It could start out as a book and many people start it out as a book. It could start out as a teleseminar, an audio recording, a DVD, or a PDF report. You could start in a number of different ways, but where you start from will determine how quickly it is reused in others.

The fastest and easiest way

We will declare that the quickest and easiest way to reuse is to convert audio into writing and video.

What is written can be digital, it can be non-digital, it can be a billboard, it can be anything, but it is written, it is read while watching a video, it is a moving image.

Audio, what is the best type of audio to reuse? It’s not just audio as a strategy or audio as a kind of information product, but what is the best audio strategy tactic, because you have three strategies, written, audio, and video, right?

If audio is the best strategy to reuse, what tactic, what type of audio is the best to start with? Teleseminars. Teleseminar audio is the fastest and easiest way to repurpose your content in all other ways.

You can pass more spokes through that hub in the middle of the wheel, which serves no purpose. A hub serves no purpose unless it is threaded with spokes and the spokes have to be connected to the wheel, which ultimately lines up, and moves and turns on a real base.

Every radius is reinforced. And when you strengthen it in a certain way where all the spokes have a certain tension, then you have a real wheel.

The perfect message

It’s a great metaphor for the perfect match between the message and the market, where the original message is the hub and the spokes are all different media or media and those media sources lead to the wheel, which is the market.
